Alexis Fletcher
A dance artist, creator, and producer, I am the Founding Co-Artistic Director of Belle Spirale Dance Projects, with Sylvain Senez.
I danced with Ballet BC for 14 years and subsequently have been a guest artist and Artist in Residence. I am currently a Guest Rehearsal Director at Ballet BC.
As an independent creator and with Belle Spirale, my creations have been supported by Dance Victoria, Ballet BC, Canada Council for the Arts, BC Arts Council, Presentation House Theatre, New Works, Vernon Performing Arts Centre, Dancing on the Edge, and Dance: made in/fait au Canada Festival. As a freelancer, I have most recently worked with Action at a Distance, Re:Naissance Opera, zoe | juniper, Dance//Novella and Wen Wei Dance.
Belle Spirale is honoured to be a 2023/24 recipient of the Chrystal Dance Prize, and the inaugural recipients of the HYPE Grant from Murray Paterson Arts Marketing for their 2025 World Premiere of UNIVERSUS.
As a dance artist I am fascinated by how exploring the movement potential of the human body becomes a way of accessing the inner landscapes of our spirits and psyches, and this is the primary motivation behind my physical practice and choreographic interests. I believe that dance is a unique vehicle with which to share, research, and discuss our humanity. As a creator I am drawn to intimate, cross-disciplinary collaborations with like-minded creative spirits, and my works strive to create a powerful and tangible connection with my audience.
After graduating from Arts Umbrella’s Post-Secondary Dance Program and student company in 2005, I began my long and inspiring journey with Ballet BC under the Artistic Direction of John Alleyne. I continue to be deeply influenced by John’s artistic legacy.
After Emily Molnar took over directorship in 2009, I was privileged to be one of the core group of dancers who, with her, were part of building Ballet BC into its new direction, sharing our work on world stages including Sadler’s Wells, Jacob’s Pillow, Canada’s National Arts Centre, The Joyce Theatre in New York, BAM, Movimentos Festival, Teatre Grec, among others. In my time with the company, I had the opportunity to work with distinguished choreographers and designers, and to be a contributing artist on numerous creative collaborations. I worked closely with Crystal Pite, Emily Molnar, Johan Inger, Stijn Celis, Jacopo Godani, Medhi Walerski, Fernando Hernando Magadan, Serge Bennathan, Gioconda Barbuto, John Alleyne, Cayetano Soto, and Jorma Elo, among others. I have also been honoured to interpret existing works by leading voices such as Martha Graham, Twyla Tharp, William Forsythe, Sharon Eyal, and Ohan Naharin.

Artiste de danse, créatrice et productrice, je suis codirectrice artistique fondatrice de Belle Spirale Dance Projects, avec Sylvain Senez.
J'ai dansé avec Ballet BC pendant 14 ans et j'ai par la suite été artiste invitée et artiste en résidence. Je suis présentement directrice de répétition invitée chez Ballet BC.

En tant qu'artiste de danse, je suis fascinée par la façon dont l'exploration du potentiel de mouvement du corps humain devient un moyen d'accéder aux paysages intérieurs de nos esprits et de nos psychés, et c'est la motivation première derrière ma pratique physique et mes intérêts chorégraphiques. Je crois que la danse est un véhicule unique avec lequel partager, rechercher et discuter de notre humanité. Comme créatrice, je suis attirée par les collaborations intimes et interdisciplinaires avec des esprits créatifs qui partagent mes idées, et mes œuvres s'efforcent de créer une connexion puissante et tangible avec mon public.
Après avoir obtenu mon diplôme du Programme de danse postsecondaire d'Arts Umbrella et de sa compagnie étudiante en 2005, j'ai commencé mon parcours long et inspirant avec Ballet BC sous la direction artistique de John Alleyne. Je continue d'être profondément influencée par l'héritage artistique de John.
Après qu'Emily Molnar ait pris la direction en 2009, j'ai eu le privilège d'être l'une du groupe principal de danseurs qui, avec elle, ont fait partie de la construction de Ballet BC dans sa nouvelle direction, partageant notre travail sur les scènes mondiales incluant Sadler's Wells, Jacob's Pillow, le Centre national des arts du Canada, le Joyce Theatre à New York, BAM, le Festival Movimentos, le Teatre Grec, entre autres. J'ai aussi eu l'honneur d'interpréter des œuvres existantes de voix importantes telles que Martha Graham, Twyla Tharp, William Forsythe, Sharon Eyal, et Ohad Naharin.
Sylvain Senez
Sylvain Senez has been active on the professional Canadian dance scene for over 45 years. He danced as a soloist with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Judith Marcuse Dance Company, Coleman Lemieux Company and a principal artist at Ballet BC. Sylvain also appeared in The Strange Adventure of Myself, a full-length solo created for him by Serge Bennathan.
During his 9 seasons with Les Grands Ballets, Sylvain toured internationally and was original cast in many new creations, with highlights including James Kudelka’s In Paradisum and also the title role in Kudelka’s Dracula.
From 1991 to 2016 he worked with Ballet British Columbia as a dancer, Ballet Master and Rehearsal Director where he has had the privilege of working and assisting for the remounts and creations of many internationally renowned choreographers. With Ballet BC he danced lead roles in works by John Alleyne, William Forsythe, Serge Bennathan, and Jiri Kylian among others.
Sylvain is a stager/repetiteur for Medhi Walerski’s ballets, has assisted him for a number of his creations, and was original cast in the role of Father Capulet in Walerski’s Romeo and Juliet creation for Ballet BC.
He has choreographed for the Ballet BC choreographic workshop, Dancing on the Edge and the Vancouver Opera. He is an accomplished ballet teacher and rehearsal director having worked with The State Ballet of Georgia in Tiblisi, Ballet Kelowna, Charlotte Ballet, Tokyo’s K-Ballet, Arts Umbrella, Harbour Dance, Lamondance, Danse a la carte and Modus Operandi.
As a photographer specializing in dance and portraiture, he has continued to pursue and expand this artistic interest by exploring videography, film and stage design. He worked on Rachel Meyer’s productions of Quartet, Transverse Orientation and Mama… do we die when we sleep?
His stage design of Alexis Fletcher’s light in the rafters led him to collaborate with the stunning art work of Tiko Kerr. He also designed and built the set for Fletcher’s full length solo assemble and her full length duet with Arash Khakpour All my being is a dark verse.

Sylvain Senez est actif sur la scène professionnelle de la danse canadienne depuis plus de 45 ans. Il a dansé comme soliste avec Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Judith Marcuse Dance Company, Coleman Lemieux Company et artiste principal avec Ballet BC. Sylvain est également apparu dans The Strange Adventure of Myself, un solo complet créé pour lui par Serge Bennathan.
Au cours de ses 9 saisons avec Les Grands Ballets, Sylvain a effectué des tournées internationales et a participé à de nombreuses nouvelles créations, avec notamment In Paradisum de James Kudelka et le rôle-titre dans Dracula de Kudelka.
De 1991 à 2016, il travaille au sein de Ballet British Columbia en tant que danseur, maître de ballet et directeur de répétition où il a eu le privilège de travailler et d'assister aux reprises et créations de nombreux chorégraphes de renommée internationale. Avec Ballet BC, il a dansé des rôles principaux dans des œuvres de John Alleyne, William Forsythe, Serge Bennathan et Jiri Kylian, entre autres.
Sylvain est metteur en scène/répétiteur pour les ballets de Medhi Walerski, l'a assisté dans plusieurs de ses créations et interpréta le rôle du Père Capulet dans la création Roméo et Juliette de Walerski pour Ballet BC.
Il a chorégraphié pour l'atelier chorégraphique du Ballet BC, Dancing on the Edge et l'Opéra de Vancouver. Il est un professeur de ballet accompli et directeur de répétition ayant travaillé avec le State Ballet of Georgia à Tiblisi, Ballet Kelowna, Charlotte Ballet, K-Ballet de Tokyo, Arts Umbrella, Harbour Dance, Lamondance, Danse à la carte et Modus Operandi.
En tant que photographe spécialisé dans la danse et le portrait, il a continué à poursuivre et à élargir cet intérêt artistique en explorant la vidéographie, le cinéma et la scénographie. Il a travaillé sur les productions de Rachel Meyer, Quartet, Transverse Orientation et Mama… do we die when we sleep?
Sa scénographie pour light in the rafters d’Alexis Fletcher l’a amené à collaborer et animer avec l’étonnante œuvre d’art de Tiko Kerr. Il a également conçu et construit le décor du solo assemble de Fletcher et de son duo complet avec Arash Khakpour pour All my Being is a Dark Verse.
